To remove the paint stains on a dog’s raincoat, you can try the following methods:

First, initial treatment

Deal with it as soon as possible: Once paint stains are found on the dog’s raincoat, they should be dealt with promptly to prevent the paint from penetrating deep into the material of the raincoat and increasing the difficulty of cleaning.

Cold water rinse: First, rinse the stained area with cold water to remove as much pigment on the surface as possible. Note that avoid using hot water as it may cause the paint to stick to the raincoat.

Second, for different types of pigment stains

Water-soluble pigments (such as watercolors, acrylic pigments, etc.)

Soap and soda water method: Apply a mixture of soap shavings and edible soda ash (a small amount of water can be added to make a paste) to the stain, and then gently rub it. After standing for a moment, rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Alcohol wiping method: For stubborn water-soluble pigment stains, a cotton swab dipped in medical alcohol or disinfectant alcohol can be used to gently wipe the stained area. Alcohol can dissolve some water-soluble pigments. After wiping, it should be rinsed clean with clear water.

Oil-based pigments (such as oil paints, etc.)

Dishwashing liquid treatment method: Apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid to the stain and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the dishwashing liquid to fully penetrate and break down the oily pigment. Then rinse with clean water and gently scrub the stained area with a soft-bristled brush.

Toothpaste cleaning method: For small areas of oily pigment stains, you can try applying a small amount of toothpaste and gently scrub with a soft-bristled brush. The abrasive and detergent components in toothpaste help remove stains.

Mixed pigments or pigments of unknown types

Specialized cleaning agent: If the type of paint cannot be determined or the stain is stubborn, a pet-specific cleaning agent or a clothing cleaning agent can be used. Use it as per the product instructions. Usually, apply the cleaning agent to the stained area, let it stand for a period of time, and then rinse it clean with clear water.

Stain remover sprays or stain removers: There are some stain remover sprays or stain removers on the market specifically designed for stubborn stains. Spray or apply it to the stain as per the product instructions, let it stand and then clean.

Third, cleaning and maintenance

Overall cleaning: If there are only partial stains on the raincoat, after removing the stains, you can rinse the raincoat as a whole with clean water. If the raincoat is dirty or has an unpleasant smell, you can wash it as a whole according to the washing instructions for the raincoat.

Drying and storage: After washing, raincoats should be hung in a cool and well-ventilated place to dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight and high-temperature drying. After drying, fold the raincoat neatly and store it in a dry and well-ventilated place to avoid dampness and mold.

Fourth, Precautions

Avoid using bleach: Bleach may damage the waterproof coating and color of raincoats, so it is not recommended.

Small-scale test: Before using any decontamination method, you can first conduct a small-scale test in a hidden area of the raincoat (such as the inner edge) to ensure that the raincoat does not fade or get damaged.

Gentle handling: When dealing with stains and cleaning raincoats, operate gently. Avoid pulling or scrubbing forcefully to prevent damage to the material and waterproof performance of the raincoat.

By using the above methods, you can try to remove the paint stains on your dog’s raincoat. If the stain is stubborn or cannot be removed, it is recommended to consult a professional dry cleaner or raincoat manufacturer to obtain more professional cleaning advice.
